Aged IOna Woman Is Called To Her Reward Mrs. Christine Gudmundson Dies Last Tuesday At Ripe Old Age of 89 Years One of Murray county's earliest pioneers was called to her last reward on last Tuesday evening, Nov. 13th, when death claimed Mrs. Christina Gudmundson at her home in Iona. Christina Johnson was born in Sörsjön Dalarna, Sweden, on the 22nd day of July, 1845. At the time of her death she was 89 years, 3 months and 21 days of age. Her childhood and young womanhood was spent in Sweden. In her girlhood she affiliated herself with the Swedish Lutheran church, being baptized and confirmed in that faith. She was united in marriage to Lars Johnson. They emmigrated to America in 1861 and settled on a homestead near Gaylord, Minn. To this union was born on child, Christian. Shortly after this Mr. Johnson was killed when lightning struck a schoolhouse in which he had sought refuge from a storm. Some years alter she was united marriage to Matthew Gudmundson. In 1874, they moved to a homested at Badger Lake, two miles east of Iona. After theearly death of her husband, she managed the farm herself. She saw the development of the country, the building of roads and railroads, and the introduction of modern inventions. In 1917 she moved to Iona, where she esided until the time of her death. Three of her children preceded her in death, Mary and August, who died in childhood, and Christina (Mrs. August Fling of Mullan, Idaho), who died inJuly of this year. Three children remain to mour her departure, Erick and Gustaf of Iona, and Joseph of Colman, S. D. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Presbuterian church with Rev. L. H. Schock officiating. Mr. Edwin Erickson of Slayton, also offered prayers at the church and cemetery. During the later years of her life, the deceased had gained much enjoymentand spirtual refreshment from the visits to her home of Mr. Erickson's Gospel singers. Interment was made at the Presbyterian cemetery at Badger Lake, located on the old homestead, a portion of whichshe gave to the Presbyterian church of Iona a few years ago. The pallbearers were J. C. Stoderl, N. P. Weyker, F. Balkenol, Ben Dysthe, Albert Benson and Richard Benson. Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gudmundson, Miss Annie Gudmundson and Lawrence Gudmundson, all of Colman, S.
